Are you looking for something to do this summer that will provide you with a little physical activity and a lot of visual appeal? If so, you should take the Main Street Challenge!!
It is an on-line statewide architectural treasure hunt that kicked off on Memorial Day and runs through Labor Day. You can make it part of your summer vacation itinerary and visit participating Main Street communities for chances to win prizes such as works by Kentucky artisans (prints, notecards, posters, etc.), Kentucky history books, Kentucky State Park lodging, gift cards, and ipods. The Main Street Challenge is a collaborative effort between the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet, Kentucky Heritage Council, Kentucky Department of Travel, Kentucky Department of Parks, and the Kentucky Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet to provide Kentuckians with an
opportunity to preserve history and health as part of their “Journey to Wellness.”
Simply visit the website to the right for all the rules and the list of participating
communities. Select which participating communities you’d like to visit this summer and download the “architectural treasures” and walking directions. Then head to
that community for your treasure hunt. Be sure to write down the addresses of the buildings where the architectural treasure is found so you can submit your entry form to compete for prizes. The more Main Street communities you visit, the more entry forms you can submit—which ultimately results in more chances to win the great prizes.
So, get your walking shoes on and take the Main Street Challenge with Historic Downtown Hopkinsville as your starting point!!
