Hopkinsville Christmas Parade @ Downtown Hopkinsville
Dec 9 @ 5:15 pm – 6:45 pm

“Christmas On the Silver Screen.”

The grand marshal for this year’s parade is former Kentucky U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield, who served the First Congressional District for 22 years before stepping down in 2016.

“HES & EnergyNet is proud to be the title sponsor of the 2017 Christmas Parade. We are excited to once again be a part of this special holiday event and look forward to celebrating Christmas with the Hopkinsville community,” said HES/EnergyNet General Manager Jeff Hurd.

Last year the Division of Parks and Recreation moved to a night parade which doubled the number of float entries from previous events.  Parade organizers hope that this year’s theme, the popularity of the night parade, and the addition of more float awards, will result in another jump in float entries.

“The theme for this year allows for some very creative parade entries,” said Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman.  “Float themes can feature any group’s favorite holiday movie – from Peanuts, to Rudolph, to Home Alone – and all Christmas movies titles in between.  We can’t wait to see what our businesses, clubs, civic groups and churches come up with for this year’s parade floats.”

Parks and Recreation is soliciting additional business sponsors to present additional awards to compliment the HES Grand Champion and the People’s Choice Award sponsored by WKDZ/WHVO.  Up to five additional cash float awards will be added to this year’s parade recognition.

Again for 2017, the parade will be part of the daylong Hopkinsville Holiday Celebration.  Downtown Renaissance happenings will begin with the all-day Christmas Market on the Square and include Dickens Alley once again during the proceedings.  The popular Pennyrile Polar Express takes center stage on Ninth Street during the late afternoon.  The community Christmas Tree will be lit immediately after the parade.  The evening concludes with the showing of The Polar Express movie at the Alhambra Theatre.

Missoula Children’s Theatre presents Gulliver’s Travels @ Alhambra Theatre
Jan 29 all-day

Missoula Children’s Theatre Residency

It’s an out-of-this-world original sci-fi musical adventure in Missoula Children’s Theatre’s adaptation of GULLIVER’S TRAVELS. With his spaceship wrecked and his trusty computer on the fritz, brave explorer Gulliver finds himself lost in space. While transporting from world to world, Gulliver discovers fighting aliens, foolish Yahoos, robots and more – all who need just as much help from Gulliver as Gulliver needs from them!

Continuing the tradition, actors and directors from Missoula come prepared with costumes, sets, and scripts. All they need is the cast! All auditioning students must be prepared to commit to the full week of the evening rehearsal schedule. Performance date is January 29, 2018. This year Missoula Children’s Theatre will present their adaptation of Gulliver’s Travels.
