The theme for the 68th annual Rotary Auction is “A Brilliant Future Through Education.”

The local Rotary Club had their first auction close to 70 years ago. They raised $3,558. After two auctions, the club assisted 16 students attend college.

Since then, the local auction has grown. In 2012, the club started the Rotary Scholars program, where students from Christian County attended Hopkinsville Community College for two years free of tuition.

The club also created the Hour Club donation as a way to demonstrate what it costs for a college to take a college credit hour. According to the press release, full-time college students will complete 12 to 15 in a semester.

This year, the Rotary Club wants to raise $168 through the Hour Club to reflect the expected rate in the fall. It is $6 more than the current cost for the spring semester.

Since Hopkinsville’s Rotary Club began auctions, the club has become the biggest fundraiser in all of Rotary International, according to the press release. It has given nearly $10.8 million in loans and scholarships since it began.
