The Pennyrile Polar Express
December 9, 2017 @ 3:00 pm – December 10, 2017 @ 5:00 am
The Pennyrile Polar Express is rolling into town for its 13th year on December 9, 2017!
This free community event provides holiday books, crafts, carriage & train rides, snacks, and other activities in historic downtown Hopkinsville. Streets are closed to allow for guests to enjoy the spirit of the season while participating in numerous activities free of charge. Horse-drawn carriages and miniature trains roll up and down the street to give children a sense of a simpler time during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. Chris Van Allsburg’s book The Polar Express is read to children of all ages, and each family receives a complimentary copy of the classic story.
If you find you own multiple copies of The Polar Express, we will gladly accept and re-distribute these gently-used and loved books to families in the community at this event. Your help will allow us to provide even more families with the spirit of the season.
Help us provide more families with the spirit of the season by participating in this “pay-it-forward” initiative. Participate in this “pay-it-forward” initiative by dropping books off at Books on Main at 9th & Virginia, Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library, Hopkinsville Parks & Recreation on Thomas Street, Pennyroyal Area Museum, and the Pennyroyal Arts Council. When you drop off your beloved copy, we invite you to sign and leave a message to the book’s new owner. Books will be graciously accepted from Tuesday, October 3 through November 10, 2017.
The Pennyrile Polar Express is organized by the Pennyroyal Arts Council, the Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County, the Christian County Literacy Council, the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library, First Presbyterian Church, Hopkinsville Parks & Recreation Department, and other dedicated individuals. Special thanks to Flynn Enterprises, our book sponsor; Sue Badgett/Hilliard Lyons, the Fort Campbell Spouse’s Club, Pennyrile Rural Electric Cooperative, Planters Bank, our carriage sponsors; and other community supporters.
