Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation

2nd Annual Skatin’ on the Square

Skatin’ on the Square, back for a second straight year as a part of #HopkinsChill Weekend, features a 2,500-square foot synthetic ice rink at Founders Square, giving guests the unique opportunity to ice skate in downtown Hopkinsville! Last year’s inaugural effort was a colossal success, urging organizers to add an extra day in 2019.

The 90-minute sessions are $10, which includes skate rental. Sessions are open to the first 100 people. While walk-up sales will be available, Skatin’ on the Square attendees are encouraged to register and purchase their session(s) in advance by visiting https://tinyurl.com/2019SkatinSquare.

Pre-registration will guarantee a spot on the ice. Groups of six or more people are asked to call 270-887-4290 or stop by the Parks and Recreation Center at 2600 Thomas Street to make reservations. A total of 22 sessions are now available for signups.

HES-EnergyNet Hopkinsville Night Christmas Parade

A signature event during #HopkinsChill Weekend, and returning as a nighttime event, is the 2019 Hopkinsville Electric System-EnergyNet Christmas Parade! Beginning at 5:15 pm on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019 in downtown Hopkinsville, the HES-Energy Net festivities will include traditional floats, as well as the first-ever Golf Cart Division, sponsored by Western Hills Golf Course.

With Hopkinsville Community College President Dr. Alissa Young as the Grand Marshal, this year’s Parade carries a theme of “What Christmas teaches us.” The Parade route, set to head south on Main Street, winds its way from Glass Avenue to 13th Street through festive downtown.

The deadline for Christmas Parade float registration has been extended to noon on Wednesday, Nov. 27. The cost to enter a float into the parade is $20 (plus tax) and a new toy, to be given as a Christmas gift to a child or family in need.

In its first year, the Christmas Parade Golf Cart Division allows for entries that are not as cost or time-consuming, but that will still allow participants to join in the fun. Cash awards will be given for both traditional floats and golf carts. WKDZ/WHVO are also back in 2019 to sponsor the “People’s Choice Award,” given to the large float that is voted on by the public.

Fridays at 5 – Badgett Playhouse “The Awesome 80’s Show”

For the Fridays at 5 2019 finale, we’re going retro! Join the community on Friday, September 13th in downtown Hopkinsville for “The Awesome 80’s Show” from The Badgett Playhouse in Grand Rivers, KY .

Badgett Playhouse was in Hoptown and gave us a FUN-filled show in 2017, so they’re returning again this year to send our summer series off in style! This is a free show at Founders Square, but bring a lawn chair or blanket for your comfort. We’ll be starting a LITTLE later than usual to wait for the weather to cool down a bit.

Holiday Burgers Food Truck, Kona Ice of Hopkinsville and Fire & Ice will be on site for your food options. We’ll also have adult beverages available for purchase.

Tie Breaker Family Aquatic Center changes to Weekend Hours

For the remainder of the 2019 Season, Tie Breaker Family Aquatic Center is changing to weekend hours to accommodate local schools being back in session in Hopkinsville. Be sure you keep splashing on Saturdays and Sundays!

The final day of the summer (for humans) is Labor Day on Monday, September 2nd. Then the waterpark will host its 3rd Annual Doggie Dip to close out the park on September 7th!
