2nd Annual Skatin’ on the Square

Skatin’ on the Square, back for a second straight year as a part of #HopkinsChill Weekend, features a 2,500-square foot synthetic ice rink at Founders Square, giving guests the unique opportunity to ice skate in downtown Hopkinsville! Last year’s inaugural effort was a colossal success, urging organizers to add an extra day in 2019.

The 90-minute sessions are $10, which includes skate rental. Sessions are open to the first 100 people. While walk-up sales will be available, Skatin’ on the Square attendees are encouraged to register and purchase their session(s) in advance by visiting https://tinyurl.com/2019SkatinSquare.

Pre-registration will guarantee a spot on the ice. Groups of six or more people are asked to call 270-887-4290 or stop by the Parks and Recreation Center at 2600 Thomas Street to make reservations. A total of 22 sessions are now available for signups.

18th Annual Turkey Trot 5K

Hoptown’s largest holiday social gathering is back on the calendar! Join us downtown on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, Nov. 28) for the 18th Annual Hopkinsville Turkey Trot 5K. This untimed fun run/walk has become a much-anticipated tradition each year, so make plans to enjoy the race before you stuff your face and #WobbleTilYouGobble!

As always, the run/walk is FREE. This year, though, we are adding some exciting options! The Hopkinsville Turkey Trot 5K will be the first leg of a tri-fun run series with Clarksville 5K Light Run and Fort Campbell Ugly Sweater Run, so you’ll be able to purchase an optional race shirt and finisher medal for $25! Proceeds from the Turkey Trot benefit the Hopkinsville Greenway Rail Trail.

However you decide to participate, PLEASE register in advance https://tinyurl.com/HoptownTurkeyTrot. Shirts and medals will be limited, so sign up by Tuesday, Nov. 19 to guarantee yours. Strollers and dogs are welcome. For more information, call Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation at 270-887-4290.

Veterans Honor Parade

The 20th Annual Veterans Honor Parade, scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, will allow all local vets the chance to walk or ride along the parade route, which will begin at the War Memorial Building (1202 South Virginia Street) at 10 a.m. Veterans don’t need to register in advance to participate, but are asked to check in at War Memorial by 9:30 a.m. the morning of the event.

We also hope that thousands of “sidewalk saluters” will line the streets to honor these brave men and women. The route will go from South Virginia Street to 9th Street, ending at the Christian County Justice Center. For more information, please call 270-887-4290.

The following streets will be blocked from 9am-10:30am:
– 14th Street at Virginia Street
– 13th Street at Virginia Street
– 12th Street at Virginia Street and at Main Street
– 11th Street at Liberty Street
– 10th Street at Main Street and at Bethel Street
– Main Street at 7th Street
– Bethel Street at 7th Street
– Bethel Street at 9th Street
– 9th Street at Justice Way

The Christian County Justice Center will be CLOSED to public parking. Suggested parking areas are Founders Square, Bethel Street, Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library and West Side Park.
